Pop, aka Harry K. Cameron (1894-1973), was born in Chillicothe, MO and moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 1900 where he lived the rest of his life. He drew fly patterns with colored pencils in a little black notebook and tied them at a bench in the hallway at the back of his home. He then used them to fish the Arkansas, South Platte and Rio Grande Rivers, among many other streams and lakes in Colorado.
Pop’s journal surfaced in 2019 after I began tying flies. I immediately knew I had something special and as I showed others they expressed interest in getting a copy if any were ever made.
I began photographing and scanning the pages, trying to find a way to get quality digital versions of each page. Once I figured that out, I had two graphic designers (including my son, Pop’s great-great-grandson) prepare the pages for print. The final piece was finding a cover that fit Pop’s story and nothing I found worked. In the end, I learned some simple leather crafting, bought a hide of leather and made the first 35 journals myself.
Thank you for your interest in Pop’s story. If you purchase one of these journals may it inspire and encourage you as it has me.
